This Hosco P Bass Pickup Height Foam with Vintage Style Shielding Plate is installed under each of the split coil pickups to aid height adjustment for the direct mounted pickups (the foam compresses when you screw the pickups down to lower their height and then expands when you unscrew the pickups, pushing them back up, when you want to raise their height). These have a vintage style copper plate on the bottom of the foam with a wire for grounding the plates, Fender Precision basses originally had this bottom plate to provide extra shielding for the pickups, this turned out to not be very effective but it is included here to provide vintage style looks to modern basses.
