Description

This Hosco Hide Glue is strong, dries hard and clear and is creep resistant. Originally used for making violins and then vintage guitars like Gibson and Martin, hide glue remains a popular option for repairing vintage instruments and new builds alike due to the way joints can be cleanly disassembled and reglued, perfect for resetting necks, removing fretboards for trussrod work gluing acoustic bridges to the soundboard. The dry granules have a very long shelf life in comparison to bottled liquid hide glues and even once mixed any leftover glue can be left to set and then reheated the next time you need it. Hosco recommends a glue:water ratio of 1:3 which should be left to soak for one hour and then heated to 70-80°C in a double boiler (the mixture can be thinned by adding warm water but do not add dry granules to the hot mixture to try and thicken as it won't dissolve). Due to the relatively short open time of hide glue the parts you are wishing to glue should be warm before applying the glue.
