Description

The Source Audio Ultrawave Bass Multiband Processor Pedal embarks on a pioneering journey into the advanced potential of overdrive and tremolo, it has six on board presets (128 via MIDI) and huge tone sculpting options through the Neuro editor. Complete with stereo ins and outs.

The Ultrawave has a simple four knob layout, a preset toggle switch and an 'alt' switch, the Drive knob adjusts the overdrive level and the Level knob adjusts the overall output volume. The Mix/Bass knob control is a dry to wet crossfade control, fully clockwise on the knob is 100% wet (no clean signal present, only signal distorted or manipulated by the Ultrawave will be heard), at noon there is a 50/50 mix and fully counter clockwise is 100% clean (no distortion), in ALT mode this knob controls the amount of bass frequencies present in the outgoing signal. The Treble/Mid knob controls how bright or mellow the overall effect is and in ALT mode this knob controls the amount of midrange present in the distortion. The preset toggle switch selects between three presets per bank, press the alt switch to toggle between the two banks.

The real power of the Ultrawave pedal is unleashed with the free Source Audio Neuro desktop editor and app, it's easy to browse from the huge library of presets or you can create your own from scratch to create the perfect tone. At the Ultrawave's core is a dynamic and multi-dimensional approach known as multiband processing, this process splits the frequency spectrum of a guitar, bass or synthesizer into multiple discrete frequency bands and equips each band with its own array of adjustable parameters. In the case of overdrive the Ultrawave splits the incoming signal and provides separate drive and output level controls for each individual band, the result is a thick and rich distortion with loads of unique overtones and dynamic interplay. Split the signal into 1, 2, 3, 4, 8 or 10 frequency bands and apply any of the band splitting options to an exciting collection of overdrive types including tube, diode, foldback (a method of distortion often heard in the world of synthesizers), octave up, negative flip diode and more. The dual channel compressor block includes studio level controls that can be placed before or after the drive circuits. The Multiband Tremolo block provides individual control of each band's tremolo depth, rate and start time as well as its LFO wave shape, changing the LFO wave shape and varying the tremolo start times of each frequency band creates fantastically propulsive sounds reminiscent of sequencer or arpeggiator effects. The LFO's Ring Mod option creates waves of retro/futuristic industrialism. The Morph feature explores the marvellous potential of sound morphing which allows musicians to smoothly transition from one super charged tone to another with an external expression pedal, LFO or envelope follower.

The Ultrawave also has advanced stereo features that can send entirely different drive effects to each of the outputs for a wide stereo field, place the effect in two places in a signal chain, or generate mind spinning, ping-pong tremolo effects. It responds to MIDI Program Change (PC) and Continuous Controller (CC) messages via its mini USB port, MIDI can be used to engage/disengage the pedal, recall up to 128 presets, move parameters and more. The 3.5 mm 'control input' port allows connection to external control devices such as the Source Audio Tap Tempo Switch, Source Audio Dual Expression Pedal, Neuro Hub and Hot Hand Motion Controller (the tap tempo switch can be used to manually tap in the rate of the LFO, the Dual Expression pedal and Hot Hand can control up to three different parameters). You can connect your phone to use the Neuro mobile app via the phone's headphone jack using the included 1/4" to 1/8" TRS cable and the firmware can be updated via the USB port. The huge scope of the Neuro editor makes the Source Audio Ultrawave Bass Multiband Processor a powerful pedal and the on board presets and simple controls give it out of the box usability, all wrapped up in a compact and rugged enclosure.
